Silicone Thickener- This makes a pourable silicone mold making rubber stick to a vertical surface, thus making it brushable. This enables you to paint on a single stick coat of silicone. It is very popular for making molds of rocks as well as molds of architectural details such as gargoyles or trim moldings. Just a small amount is needed, typically 1% of the total mixed silicone. |
4 Ounces $9 16 ounces $15 |

In these photos I will
demonstrate a method of making a quick mold of a shell I found on the beach.
This mold cost less than $2 to make and it was completed in about 5
minutes.. The first two photos show me measuring and mixing equal amounts of moldmaking rubber. The third photo show me "smooshing" the silicone onto the original shell. In the fourth photo the mixed casing resin is being poured into the mold. In the fifth photo the finished casting is being demolded. It is made of AeroMarine Casting Resin, and cost about $.05 on materials. It could also have been made of soap, wax, chocolate, candy, or even a low melt metal. |
